Apple iMac 27 inch Retina 5k Desktop - Review
With Apple products you obviously love the interface or you don't. This is a non-technical review of the Apple iMac 27 inch Retina 5k Desktop computer with 3.2 GHz intel core i5 with 8GB Ram and 1 TB of storage. I use this particular computer on a daily basis and have done so for about a year. I love the display and ease of use. I did purchase the trackpad and don't use the mouse which came with the desktop.
I have found that if you have Dropbox or OneDrive syncing, as I do with tons of video and photo files, it can tend to slow down this guy, yes even this behemoth. If you have never experienced the retina display, it really is very crisp and bright. There are a slew of YouTube videos to view 5k and once everything catches up, I assume I will take a bit more advantage of the resolution.
Believe it or not 1 TB isn't what it used to be with all the media files we use nowadays and I'm only at 200GB still available, yikes time to clean some stuff up or have Dropbox sync less files to this computer. If you don't store a lot of media this will work just fine. The 8GB of RAM is actually expandable (two open memory card slots) but I find it is normally plenty for my purposes. There are four USB slots on the back and remember since this is Apple, there is no disc drive. The display sit atop a somewhat adjustable stand that allows for movement up and down but not side to side (although on a desk you can just turn the display along with the stand if you need to show someone what you are viewing).
The wireless keyboard and trackpad work great, you will need some time to get used to the trackpad but once you get the hang of it, it is way better than the mouse, in my opinion.
Overall: Apple is either your type of product or not, personally I really enjoy Mac and the built in software (Garage Band and iMovie to name a few). I can run all my office products seamlessly (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and it is more customizable than one might originally think. I don't game on this system so I could not speak to its ability to handle that, sorry if you came here looking for that answer. I highly recommend this Mac if you have the means.
Pros: great display, I mean fantastic colors, nice UI but you either like Mac or you don't.
Cons: expensive, can slow down if you sync a lot of files using a cloud product for storage (Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.).
