Hisense 50" H5 Series 120Hz LED 1080p Smart TV Review
Hey all, today I'm reviewing a brand I had never really heard of before, Hisense, specifically the Hisense 50" H5 Series 120Hz LED Smart TV. It is a Chinese company with locations within the USA. This particular unit was purchased at one of "mart" stores. Previously, I had a 48" Vizio Smart TV installed in our bedroom but I kept having connection problems, so I returned the Vizio and picked up this Hisense. I didn't really expect much for a Smart TV under $400, but it has been much better than expected.
The setup is easy, just like any other television you can add your cable or satellite via HDMI (there are three inputs) and since there is WIFI built in you can add the tv to your network so you are able to utilize the apps built in (Netflix, Amazon Video, Vudu, Pandora and YouTube). I mostly use Amazon and Netflix and we have had no issues whatsoever.
The video and sound quality are very good considering the price point. The remote is also easy to use with four large buttons for Netflix, Amazon, Vudu and YouTube. Personally I did not feel the need to adjust the picture settings from the original setup but you may want to adjust given the room it is located.
This was advertised as a slim model, but considering the various brands of tvs and their proverbial sleekness, this is far from slim. Don't get me wrong it isn't bulky but don't expect 1" thick.
Overall: for less than $400 this is a great choice for a 50" Smart TV. With 3 HDMI you can easily attach a blu-ray player, a game console and satellite/cable box. Also, with several popular apps available you can have almost unlimited watching (but go and read a book sometimes too :))
Pros: price point, good picture quality, easy setup.
Cons: startup takes a couple of minutes sometimes, not 4k.
