Naviskauto DVD Headrest Mounts 10.1 Inch
Review of the Navikauto DVD 10.1 inch Dual Headrest Monitors.
Recently I purchased a new vehicle and wanted to implement some backseat entertainment for my kids so I purchased two of the Naviskauto DVD headrest monitors. I installed them in my Lexus LS460 and hid the wires as best I could for an OEM look.
The installation took some time, but the instructions were helpful. The instructions are poorly translated into English, but with some reading you can figure it out.
The units work as described and there is the ability to watch a DVD independently on each screen or simultaneously with the provided RCA connectors. In order to watch simultaneously you must use the remote as the control from the unit is difficult to navigate as the screens are not touch screen but there is a bottom menu on the unit itself. Speaking of the remote, it is very difficult to use and there are two of them! One of the remotes has nearly 50, yes 50 buttons while the smaller one has 18. You must find the same input for each screen and enter it. The problem we have encountered when watching separate movies is that when you fast forward or do anything with one of the remotes, it changes the other screen as well. So you have to make sure and slyly point the remote at only the screen you want to change, etc.
While inserting our second movie by clicking the back of the unit, the spring came out and had to be put back in, then while trying to put it back in one of the plastic pieces (hinge) broke. The unit still works but that was disappointing. Check out our YouTube video about this installation here.
Bottomline: these units cost around $130 or so each and for the money you can get an OEM look, additionally since they come with dedicated headphones the kids can watch individual movies and you can still enjoy your in-car entertainment, unless there is a kid in the middle seat, but I have installed a vehicle DVD bypass for that one, check out that review here.
Pros: low cost and independent or simultaneous play, easy installation.
Cons: cheaper quality product, complex remote and not a touch screen.
